Canyon Street Affordable Housing

COMMUNITY ARCHITECTURE — GREEN BUILDING — MISSING MIDDLE housing

TWISP, WASHINGTON

Canyon Street is a 13-house development, on 3.25 acres, in the rural town of Twisp, Washington.  The Methow Valley is renowned for its beauty and recreational opportunities leading to an influx of wealthier part-time residents that compete with local residents for the limited supply of housing.

Canyon Street is an excellent example of a permanently affordable development through the community land trust model with Methow Housing Trust. Canyon Street is within walking distance of downtown Twisp making it possible for homeowners to live close to where they work and play. It is designed with a strong street appeal that dignifies its residents and reinforces the neighborhood fabric.

Large windows provide ample natural light and high ceilings add to the spacious feeling inside the homes. The houses are well-insulated and include energy-efficient appliances and heating/cooling systems to contribute to lower monthly energy bills.

Strong street landscaping integrates the neighborhood. Each backyard opens to a veggie garden and open space, preserving river and mountain views.
