COMMUNITY — PACIFIC NORTHWEST DESIGN
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
CAST worked with a passionate community group to define aspirations for the largely pro-bono project, solicit feedback to shape the design, and raise funds. The goal of the project was simple—to provide the community gardeners with a shelter during functions, a storage space for tools, a library, a kitchen, and an aesthetically pleasing rainwater collection system. The outdoor gathering space is a place of beauty and productivity and provides seating and cover for potlucks, meetings, and celebrations. The award-winning design and entire project was built with volunteer labor, donated building materials, and a matching grant from the Department of Neighborhoods. CAST later added a grape arbor, an information kiosk, and entry signage to welcome neighbors into the garden.
