MISSING MIDDLE HOUSING — RESIDENTIAL DESIGN — GREEN BUILDING

CAST is closely associated with efforts to improve housing affordability through increasing the “missing middle,” moderate density infill within existing neighborhoods. This work includes policy advocacy work as well as the design of DADU’s, ADU’s and small-scale apartment buildings.

Located on a tree-lined street in Seattle’s iconic Capitol Hill, Jansen Court Apartments is a 4-Star Built Green 10-unit apartment building.

Constructed on the rear of an urban parcel, it preserves a turn of the century house in the front yard and two exceptional cherry trees. The 10 studio dwellings are each designed to have separate entrances with no shared walls. They are arranged into two stacks of five, tied together with a single egress stair. The variety of homes includes lofts, studios, and penthouse apartments with roof garden decks.
