Historic restoration of the Reichert House & STUDIO / Blair-McAdams Home

HISTORIC RESTORATION — SEATTLE HOMES — RESIDENTIAL DESIGN — SEATTLE HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

Historic Seattle awarded this Robert Reichert Home & Studio its Outstanding Modern Preservation Award. The original architect, Robert Reichert built this home for himself and his mother in 1954. It includes architectural elements he is best known for like the massing of the shed roof and bold graphic art elements. The home was designed to be “expressive at all times” with shadow paintings on the south wall.

CAST’s restoration pays homage to the modernist architect’s former Seattle home.

It retains its bold graphics and clean lines. A series of renovations had stripped the residence of its original striking presence and obscured much of what makes it special. The playful, sculptural nature of the building is restored while updating the home’s materials and systems and tailoring it to the current owners’ lifestyle.
